The Sad Passing of Fearless the Gorilla

Grace

I’m very sorry to say that Fearless (Ntabwoba), the orphan gorilla featured in my book, Gorilla Doctors, died suddenly on November 5th at the Gorilla Rehabilitation and Conservation Education (GRACE) Center in the DRC. When I met Fearless 12 years ago at the home of Gorilla Doctors Felicia Nutter and Christopher Whittier, he been rescued from poachers just a week earlier. Thanks to dedicated round-the-clock care the little guy recovered and grew up to become the kind and good-natured leader of a group of orphaned gorillas. See this GRACE webpage for a slide-show tribute to Fearless. The photo of him hugging little Dunia, a newly-arrived and traumatized orphan, says it all.
